It's just under two weeks until we leave and I am getting very apprehensive! I fluctuate between excitement and slight panic and I have to remind myself why we are doing this!
Allen, "Porky" (my husband) has been there for 6 months and has planted the first commercial trees in Ghana. He is living in the middle of nowhere with very few amenities and is needing huge support so I am going up to join him on the 13th of November....Tuesday, not Friday!
On the website "noworriesghana" I read that I had better take anything with me that I think I might need as it is unlikely that I will be able to buy what I want and if it is available, then it's very pricey! I read too that one has to take one's own injections, needles, sutures etc., as most local clinics are unhygienic! One should also have a tetanus, cholera, typhoid, meningitis and rabies injection but I have decided to be positive and only have the tetanus one. What a misnomer! I suppose it means that as long as they have warned you, then they don't have to worry!
So, I have packed a suitcase to go on ahead of me filled with sensodyne toothpaste, suncream, anti-biotics, dental floss, canesten, citro soda, fever blister cream and 21kgs of other girly stuff just in case! Men need a toothbrush and a comb.....so I'll be using Porks' luggage allowance as well as mine when I go up for the first time.
He has written to say that in 38 years of forestry work he has come across a FIRST. The security guard who guards the office at night has come to him to ask him to please switch the security lights off as he is battling to sleep. Don't you just love it??? So starts our adventure!
I am wishing you and Dad all the best on this new adventure. If anyone can make the most of this it's YOU! Love you both so much. i...y!
